Hey this is my very first post. As you may know this blog is on the supernatural and horror genre of T.V. shows, movies, books and online stories and I thought I would start off slow so this is going to be the first I am going to explain and analyze.
Firstly this is a spoiler warning, is you have not watched the WHOLE show from start to finish you may want to before reading this.
Gravity Falls is a Disney channel original series that went from June 15 2012 and ended on February 15 2016. It was crate by Alex Hirsch and was based on his childhood summer experiences with his own twin sister. The animation team based a lot of the show and its characters on the animators and his childhood or people they knew.
Gravity Falls is about twin brother and sister, "Dipper"(name revealed to be a nick-name, real name unknown) and Mable Pines. Who are sent by their parents (who are never shown) to the small Oregon town of Gravity Falls, to live with their great uncle Stanford Pines (aka: Grunckle Stan) at his tourist trap; The Mystery Shack. The twins spend their summer exploring the woods surrounding the town and hunting supernatural creatures from a journal Dipper Pines found in the forest which depicts monsters that live there. The show starts off as a cute story about two twins living with their eccentric great uncle and the twins searching for answers on the creatures along with them uncovering shocking facts about each creature and how not everything is as it seems. This is a common theme in the show as not only creatures true natures are uncovered, but also the true nature of members of the town.
When the town’s beloved child psychic, Gideon Gleeful enters our story as Stanford's tourist rival, our main character, Mable Pines takes an interest and wants to obtain him as a boyfriend. It starts off cute and ends up horrible when Mable attempts to end the relationship, Gideon blames Dipper for Mable's choice and attempt's to take his life. Dipper knows that Gideon, being the town’s sweetheart, would be impossible to convict of any crime to the town without any real proof. As the show goes from here it takes an unexpected turn when Gideon summons a demon to enter Stanford's mind and obtain the code to his safe containing the deed to the Mystery Shack. Dipper also enters Stanford's mind and succeeding in defeating the demon Gideon summoned. However this victory is short lived when they return to the shack they find that Gideon obtained the deed via dynamite and are kicked out of the shack being forced to live with Soos and his grandmother. Later the twins succeed in taking back the Shack and revealing Gideon's true thoughts on the town’s people.
The demon, Bill, is not to be taken lightly as he becomes the main antagonist in the second season. Bill later convinces Dipper to make a deal with him for Dipper to obtain the password to a laptop containing all the information on the author and the universe itself, told to him by Bill. And Bill is violent in dippers body and purposely falls down the stairs and proceeds to stab dippers arm with forks. He also when trying to obtain the journal from Mable threatens her violently when he gestures that he will cause her to fall from a great height by releasing a rope to where she is being contained. Bill is revealed to want to take over their universe and fill it with weirdness by the author; the real Stanford Pines. Grunckle Stan's real name being Stanley Pines and Stanford's twin.
The whole show is littered with terrifying imagery and content, like a ghost whose skull was split open by an ax and members of the town being killed or mutilated on screen, and a reverse waterfall of blood. While the show is Disney there is still horror aspects to the show and the entire series is about the supernatural. It is an excellent series and is my favorite from Disney.
